FIRST Demos & Information Sessions

Join FIRST and Washington FIRST Robotics teams for hands on demonstrations from this year's competition season! For The Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is one of the fastest growing non-profit organizations that excites youth, 6-18 about STEM. With 450,000 youth involved in FIRST across the world, come see Washington state teams demonstrate what they are learning and life skills they are developing the sport of science, technology and teamwork. Information sessions will be held for conference attendees to learn how to get involved with FIRST and to bring FIRST to their city or country. After the demonstrations, feel free to talk with these students about possibilities after school. Who knows, they might even let you try to drive a robot!

14:30-15:00 Welcome to FIRST!
Come learn about the four programs that FIRST offers for kids ages 6-18 to engage in STEM pathways. IEEE/ICRA conference participants are in for a treat in interacting and visiting with teams who are part of Washington FIRST Robotics. Great informational session on how you can promote FIRST in your community and start teams!
15:00-15:30 FIRST LEGO League Demonstrations (9-14 years of age)
Come watch three dynamic FLL teams demonstrate how they programed their robots to achieve certain missions during the 2014 FIRST Challenge of World Class Education. The FLL teams that are participating are: Team 189, Circle of 7, Team 6430, Robogators and Team 6438 Robogators Team 2 from Northshore Christian Academy. Watch demonstrations and hear the teams presentations on their project and how they practice the Core Values in FIRST.
15:15-15:45 How to start a FIRST Team?
Seasoned FIRST Coach Lori Hittle will be available to walk you through the steps needed to start a FIRST team and program in your local community. Lori has been an FLL and FRC coach and seasoned volunteer for the FIRST programs.
15:30-16:00 FIRST Tech Challenge Demonstrations (12-18 years of age)
Experience the FIRST Tech Challenge program with two of Washington FIRST Robotics top FTC teams, SWERVE Robotics and XBot. In addition to demonstrations from the 2014 Challenge Cascade Effect, take your turn at driving a Bot!
16:15-16:45 How to start a FIRST Team?

16:00-16:30 FIRST Robotics Competition Demonstrations (14-18 years of age)
Check out the FRC teams Sonic Squirrels and Cedar Park Robotics as they demo this year’s Recycle Rush Challenge. Both of these teams advanced to the World Championships in Saint Louis Missouri to compete with the best of the best.
